At last year's SSPC Conference, Clemco Industries demonstrated an autonomous blasting system. |
Exhibitors range from coating, blasting equipment and abrasive suppliers to companies involved with containment, access and safety.
Before the conference really gets into full swing, however, SSPC 2018 will open on Sunday with the Phil Calvo Memorial Golf Tournament.
Phil Calvo, who served as a member of the Board of Governors for SSPC from 1994-2003, was a regular presence at Society events, especially those related to lead issues. Calvo, who founded containment supplier Eagle Industries, was also crucial in the development of standards for containment on lead-removal projects.
The tournament will be a four-person scramble.
In addition to the exhibit hall and golf, this year’s conference features new opportunities beyond the basics of the conference, such as the Step It Up Challenge and a golf tournament.
For those interested in the step challenge, each team will count their own steps, and at registration, individuals will receive a pedometer to measure their steps. Participants may use their own pedometer or the one provided, or an app or another activity tracker.
Teams of five can register for free by Monday. Once that is done, the team will need to assign a captain and sign up on the activity feed of the SSPC 2018 app. Tracking steps is based on the honor system and the use of individual pedometers; there should be no estimates or guesses. Teams should also post their results daily.
The competition ends on Wednesday, and a total count will be taken Thursday morning, with the winner being announced at the closing party that same evening.
