Smart Box Tracks Abrasive Work

TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 26, 2013

A new abrasive-blasting monitoring system tracks live blasting time from remote locations, Marco Group International reports.

The Blastmaster Smart Box is a monitoring system for mobile and fixed location applications that monitors productivity in the field at the blast site through pressure measurement.

Productivity time and motion studies can be assessed and production standards can be set with remote monitoring in blast rooms or from remote office locations, the company says.

The box is retrofitable to any abrasive-blasting pot, blast room or remote monitoring location. It captures production time, recording actual hours of operation on up to four outlets.

The system has built-in "in-use" indicators and tank pressure display. When pressure is released through the blasting process, the device automatically records the amount of "in-use" time. Productivity data is saved on an integrated SD memory card, which can be viewed with Microsoft Excel, according to Marco.

Smart Box data allows site and production managers to analyze and forecast time and abrasive usage, establish production standards, reduce safety hazards through pressure monitoring, and identify ways to reduce costs, the company says.

"Time is money, and down time is lost money," said Matt Molumby, director of engineering. "The Blastmaster Smart Box will be an incredible advantage for our customers. The information it provides will allow them to increase productivity, work safer, and stay on top of their supply needs."

Headquartered in Davenport, IA, Marco provides services and supplies to the surface preparation and protective coatings industries.
