Pipeline Coating Bonds in a New Way

A new onshore pipeline coating eliminates the need for an adhesive layer by bonding directly with the anti-corrosion layer, according to producer Bredero Shaw.

SureBond 100 is a new pipeline coating for protection and field joint integrity composed of fusion bonded epoxy followed by an outer layer of reinforced polymer. 

According to the company, it uses an interlocking topcoat molecular structure that "solves the difficulties typical to three-layer coatings" and is half as thick.

The coating eliminates the adhesive layer and forms a bond with both the field joint and anti-corrosion layers.

SureBond 100 is suitable for pipe sizes ranging from 3.5 inches to 56 inches in high operating temperatures and high abrasion environments, according to Bredero Shaw, the largest division of ShawCor Ltd.

Its wide temperature range, from -70°C to 100°C (-94°F to 212°F), eliminates thermal cycling failures and allows low-temperature bending, the company says.
