MONDAY, JANUARY 8, 2024

Color science and technology company X-Rite recently teamed up with global color and design company Pantone to offer the 2024 Color of the Year in a workflow tool that helps brands accurately produce the shade.

Pantone 2024 Color of the Year

Last month, Pantone released its 2024 Color of the Year selection, described as a velvety gentle peach whose spirit enriches the mind, body and soul.

The company explains that, at a time of turmoil in many aspects of our lives, there is a need for nurturing, empathy and compassion in a peaceful future.

Pantone 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a warm, cozy peach shade that Pantone says brings a “feeling of tenderness” and communicates a “message of caring and sharing, community and collaboration.”

“A cozy peach hue softly nestled between pink and orange, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz brings belonging, inspires recalibration, and an opportunity for nurturing, conjuring up an air of calm, offering us a space to be, feel, and heal and to flourish from whether spending time with others or taking the time to enjoy a moment by ourselves,” said Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director, Pantone Color Institute.

“Drawing comfort from PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz, we can find peace from within, impacting our wellbeing. An idea as much as a feeling, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz awakens our senses to the comforting presence of tactility and cocooned warmth.”

This year’s selection also marks the 25th anniversary of the Pantone Color of the Year program. Introduced in 1999, the first color pick was Pantone 15-4020 Cerulean Blue.

According to the company, the program has become a globally iconic touchstone, drawing attention to how what is taking place in our culture is reflected and expressed through the language of color.

Official Pantone Color of the Year 2024 partner companies include Motorola, Shades by Shan, Ruggable, Ultrafabrics and Spoonflower.

Digital Tools

Using PantoneLIVE, a cloud-based digital color standard ecosystem, consumer product companies can reportedly easily incorporate Peach Fuzz to accelerate the design manufacturing process.

“Visually arresting and inviting, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is a nurturing peach tone that inspires us to instinctively want to reach out and touch,” said Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Color Institute.

“Presenting a fresh approach to a new softness, PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz is an enveloping peach hue that awakens our senses to the comforting presence of tactility and cocooned warmth.”

PantoneLIVE Production for Plastic, Coatings, and Textile can be used by brands, suppliers and manufacturing teams to immediately leverage the spectral data for the COTY and other colors found in the Pantone Fashion, Home + Interiors (FHI) System and for the Pantone Matching System (PMS) for plastics and coatings.

X-Rite explains that brands can select a color from the PantoneLIVE library using the or measure physical samples using a spectrophotometer to create a Color Specification Document that includes spectral data, tolerances and illuminant requirements.

Additionally, suppliers can immediately begin color formulation and compare the results with the specified color. Suppliers then submit the best result through Textile Color Hub for digital approval by the brand.

“Digitizing color helps brands cut production time in half by getting to approved color faster and more efficiently while supporting sustainability efforts,” said Matthew Adby, Product Management Director, X-Rite.

“Using PantoneLIVE as part of a digital color workflow, brands can immediately start designing, communicating color standards, prototyping, and producing PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz across textiles, paint and coatings, and plastics.”

According to the release, designers and manufacturers can also quickly and cost-effectively create virtual prototypes or digital material twins using X-Rite solutions.

Using the PANTORA desktop application with X-Rite Ci7000 Series, MA-T12 or MetaVue VS3200 spectrophotometers, companies can reportedly digitally visualize color and appearance characteristics of fabrics, velvets, leathers and meshes to expedite product development and reduce oversampling.

“PANTONE 13-1023 Peach Fuzz lends itself to textured materials you want to touch,” continued Adby. “However, a material’s texture and feel can significantly impact a final product’s color and appearance.

“X-Rite solutions help brands go beyond spectral data to digitize material appearance characteristics such as texture, weave, and shine. This enables companies to create accurate 3D renderings and digital prototypes to assess and control color virtually before producing physical samples.”
