New Product Announcement: Biobased Outdoor Coating

TUESDAY, MARCH 15, 2022

Corrosion-prevention company Cortec Corporation recently announced the release of its new biobased, temporary outdoor coating designed for marine and high humidity conditions.

EcoAir Biobased Outdoor Coating powered by Nano VpCl is a ready-to-use coating, available in a spray can. The coating is reportedly classified as non-flammable and provides multi-metal corrosion protection that is temperature stable to 180 F (82 C).

According to Cortec, the spray coating leaves behind an oily protective film that does not dry and offers rust prevention in outdoor applications. It can be removed by rinsing with the company’s VpCl-41x series cleaner degreaser once the protection period is complete.

Cortec notes the coating can be used for temporary protection of metal parts where a wet film corrosion inhibitor is desired, such as storing piping on sheltered outdoor racking or moving offshore layup equipment parts. It is also an option for manufacturers who want to spray a light protective coating on metal components before shipping or storage, such as automotive service parts.

Additionally, EcoAir is classified as a USDA Certified Biobased Product that contains 65% USDA biobased content. Cortec reports this was achieved by combining renewably sourced oil and solvent materials with its VpCl corrosion inhibitor formulation.

Reportedly the first time the coating has been packaged in an EcoAir bag-on-valve spray can, the coating is easy to carry and spray where needed, including remote locations that do not have readily available electricity to run power spray equipment. Cortec adds that these cans can also be sprayed in any direction, including upside down.

Furthering its environmental benefits, EcoAir cans are powered by compressed air instead of CO2 or flammable propane/isobutane, with an EcoPouch inserted into the pressurized can containing the liquid. The metal can be recycled after the pouch is removed once the can is empty.
