Flooring and decking company Cali Bamboo (San Diego, California) announced Monday (March 26) a new line of hardwood that’s layered over a limestone composite core.

The company calls its Geowood line a “technological breakthrough,” citing design and water resistance.

Cali says the secret to the new product is the limestone composite, which gives the planks resistance to indentation. This composition translates to 50 percent better dimensional stability the company says, meaning less expansion and contraction.

The top layer, up to 1.2 mm thick, features sustainably sourced bamboo. In addition to the four bamboo styles, however, additional hardwoods such as hickory, oak, maple and walnut are set to be released this summer.
