JPCL Steel Coating Buying Guide Online Now

WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 19, 2022

The 2022 Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings Coating Systems Buying Guide for Steel is available in print and online at paintsquare.com.

The guide features details about high-performance coating systems from coating manufacturers for steel substrates on bridges, in chemical and petrochemical plants, marine and offshore structures, power plants, pulp and paper facilities, railcars, transmission pipelines, wastewater treatment plants, water works and waterfront, locks and dams, as well as specialty-function applications.

The guide is published as a resource to help facility owners, third-party specifiers, contractors and anyone else engaged in a coatings project to identify systems that companies recommend for specific applications, exposures, substrates and specialty functions.

Issue Contents

In addition to the 2022 JPCL Coating Systems Buying Guide for Steel, the September issue also contains feature articles on a sewer line rehab project and high-voltage holiday detection testing.

Opening the issue, JPCL offers a conference preview for Technology Publishing Company’s popular hosted buyer event for the protective and marine coatings industry, Contractor Connect, including an outline of the event agenda.

From Oct. 25-28, qualified buyers (contractors) and sellers (suppliers) will come together for a variety of networking activities, educational sessions and prescheduled one-on-one meetings at the Hammock Beach Golf Resort & Spa in Palm Coast, Florida.

Following the conference preview, the editors pulled together some of the recent, most-read stories on paintsquare.com for the Coverage section. Some of these topics include new wage grades for Navy shipyard federal painters, as well as staffing changes for Hempel, The ChemQuest Group Inc. and Tnemec Company Inc.

Coming Next Issue

The next installment in the Coatings 101 series follows Coverage, covering coating application after August’s review on surface preparation. Additionally, readers can find a new installment of “Investigating Failure,” with Rick A. Huntley of KTA-Tator, Inc. providing a look at the selection of the wrong coating system for immersion service on a wind tower.

In this issue’s features, Randy Gonzalez from PPG PMC Raven Lining Systems explains how careful coating selection and application came into play to contribute to a sewer line rehab project’s ultimate success in “Sewer Line Rehab Requires a Change of Course.” During the project, a length of 30-inch-daimeter pipe seemed ideal for cure-in-place pipe rehab, but an adjacent subsection of the pipe and a narrow flume area required the contractors to consider a different approach.

Finally, “Are You Ready For a Holiday?” focuses on the use of high-voltage holiday detection testing and the methods required to get consistent results on any project. It includes a discussion on results of a test program designed by authors Cameron Walker of Avid Protective Products, Inc.; and Vaughn O’Dea, Joshua Bell and Javier Tormes of Tnemec Company, Inc. to determine the validity of different testing voltages and the resulting consistency of holidays detected.

Readers can also find the recurring Bid Bits and Paint by Numbers articles in the issue.

Did you know JPCL is available in multiple formats? In addition to the print edition, you can read the full March issue as a digital flipbook online, in a downloadable PDF or as individual articles on paintsquare.com.

Following the release of each issue, the magazine is added to the JPCL archives—containing 25 years of JPCL digital issues dating back to 1996—which cover a priceless collection of evergreen information, solutions to real-life problems, case studies, insight from experts and a historical record of the industry.

In 2020 alone, Technology Publishing CEO Brion Palmer reported that more than 25,000 industry professionals accessed the archives. However, the content is only available to current JPCL subscribers and, in separating from SSPC, is no longer an association benefit.
