JPCL Releases 2023 Equipment Buying Guide

FRIDAY, JULY 7, 2023

The Journal of Protective Coatings and Linings has recently released its 2023 Equipment Buying Guide, an annual directory of equipment and related supplies for protective and marine coating work from manufacturers, distributors and rental companies.

This year’s edition includes listing of more than 180 equipment companies, obtained through a survey sent earlier this year to companies known to JPCL.

The guide is divided into 10 sections including Access, Application, Climate Control, Decorative Finishing, Education and Online Tools, Environmental Protection, Inspection, Laboratory Testing, Safety and Surface Preparation.

The online guide is searchable, sortable and simple to use on mobile and desktop devices. The 2023 Equipment Buying Guide can be found here.

Other Issue Contents

The latest issue of the JPCL is now available on paintsquare.com and shipping to print subscribers. This issue contains feature articles on hand and power tool cleaning basics, electrostatic dissipative flooring and an equipment buying guide.

Opening this issue, readers are reminded of the remaining 2023 conferences and other protective coatings industry events, including TPC Connect: Industrial Coatings in November and two Department of Defense hosted symposiums, as well as conventions for water, marine and surface preparation sectors.

The sixth annual TPC Connect: Industrial Coatings (formerly Contractor Connect) will be held Nov. 6-9 at the Westin Lake Las Vegas Resort & Spa in Henderson, Nevada. Produced and hosted by Technology Publishing Co. (TPC), industrial painting contractors and industry suppliers will convene for three-plus days of networking, education, fabulous activities and one-on-one meetings.

Following the announcement, the editors pulled together some of the recent, most-read stories on paintsquare.com for the Coverage section. Some of these topics include the NTSB's latest actions for weathering steel bridges, the Arizona pipeline explosion aftermath and Boeing’s plans for a new coatings facility.

In this issue’s features, "Taking the Shock Out of Electric Vehicle Battery Production Facilities: How Electrostatic Dissipative Flooring Protects Plants, Personnel and Profits" by authors Casey Ball and Eugene Geisz of Sherwin-Williams explain why electrostatic charges occur and how to mitigate them in critical areas using resinous electrostatic disiipative flooring systems. With billions invested in electric vehicle battery facilities, in which a small electrostatic discharge could take out computers and production equipment or cause explosions, it's critical to get ESD flooring systems specified and installed correctly.

Finally, the next Coatings 101 column "Beyond Blasting: An Intro to Hand & Power Tool Cleaning Basics" covers how surface preparation is the most important factor in a successful protective coating application. While abrasive blast-cleaning is the most effective method of surface preparation, it is not always a feasible option, especially when dimensions and/or economics of the job factor in. This article describes how hand and power tools can be employed to remove coatings and corrosion to prepare a surface for new coatings.
