Firms Team Up on New Foam Insulation

MONDAY, JULY 8, 2013

A new closed-cell spray foam insulation is designed to seal the building envelope from air filtration, moisture, allergens and pollutants.

HOUZE ZERO Foam is the product of a partnership by building systems provider HOUZE Advanced Building Science Inc. and spray foam manufacturer Lapolla Industries Inc.

The product is designed to save energy "by adding an exceptionally high R-value insulation system to the comprehensive building envelope," the companies said in a product announcement.

ZERO Foam can be spray applied to any shape and substrate using Honeywell's Enovate foam blowing agent, to "change the performance and comfort of every home in any climate and dramatically [improve] the energy efficiency of homes and buildings," the manufacturer reports.

The product has an E-84 Class I fire rating, International Code Council approval, and many other global approvals in Europe and Scandinavia, the companies say.

Building Performance

ZERO Foam was used in the construction of affordable, zero-energy HOUZE homes’ built last year in Independence Heights, TX, just north of Houston.

HOUZE Labs is currently working with Lapolla and Honeywell on research and development of new insulation technologies, said Doug Kramer, president and CEO of Lapolla Industries.
