Global specialty chemicals supplier Perstorp (Malmö, Sweden) recently announced the introduction of two new renewable polyol products, rounding out a new line of three renewable alternatives to the essential polyols.

The renewable line includes alternatives to traditional pentaerythritol (penta), trimethylolpropane (TMP) and neopentyl glycol (neo).

Perstorp’s renewable penta, Voxtar, has been on the market since 2010; its TMP and neo alternatives are both new. Evyron is a partly renewable TMP, and Neeture is a partly renewable neo.

Mass Balance

The company says the new products are based on a certified mass balance concept, in which fossil and renewable products are mixed in the same existing systems, and their quantities are tracked. This, the company says, allows for the same quality and performance as traditional materials, in a more environmentally friendly option.

“The time is right to add two new renewable polyols,” said Anna Berggren, Perstorp’s global market segment manager for resins. "The market demand for bio-based material is rapidly increasing due to a strong focus on sustainable chemistry and renewable raw materials. We are committed to our environmental responsibility as well as to helping our customers in their sustainable development.”

The new line will go on the market Jan. 1, 2018.
