AIA, Deltec Announce Specification Tool

MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2021

The American Institute of Architects, along with software company Deltek, have announced what they’re calling a new specification solution to be released for the architecture, engineering and construction industry, in September.

The program, dubbed Deltek Specpoint, aims to be an all-in-one specification and design automation tool that will be the new home of AIA MasterSpec. Specpoint aims to help architects and engineers reduce risk and improve project outcomes with the combination of its approach to authoring specifications and the content provided via MasterSpec.

“The strong partnership between AIA and Deltek has elevated the importance of specifications as a strategic asset in the architect’s design process,” said AIA EVP/Chief Executive Officer Robert Ivy, FAIA. “We’re now seeing the partnership take on a more revolutionary approach with the launch of Specpoint. This application offers architects a better pathway to bring their designs into reality.”

The American Institute of Architects, along with software company Deltek, have announced what they’re calling a new specification solution to be released for the architecture, engineering and construction industry, in September.

The companies said that they recognized the need for firms to be able to increase project efficiencies and teamed up to deliver an cloud-based tool for product research with a streamlines specification design and publishing tool in one place.

“For decades, Deltek has been working closely with architecture, engineering and construction firms to deliver the most comprehensive software solutions. Together with AIA, we are looking to the future and empowering those companies on their digital transformation journey,” said Mike Corkery, President and CEO at Deltek. “We are very excited to continue our partnership with AIA and bring the power of Specpoint to market.”

Recent AIA Partnerships

Earlier this month the AIA announced that it will be continuing its strategic partnership with The Sherwin-Williams Company, which began in 2018.

The AIA noted that the partnership aims to enhance support of architects in practice, to build the company’s knowledge base about the profession and to facilitate a greater understanding of architects and their preferences in using paints and coatings to support their designs.

Just before that, in September, AIA and the American Institute of Steel Construction joint-issued a paper titled, “Design Collaboration on Construction Projects: Delegated Design, Design Assist and Informal Involvement – What Does it all Mean?”

According to the AISC, the idea for the paper was born out of noticing the commonly used terms “design assist” and “delegated design” and the differences in meanings to different people.

Therefore, the goal of the paper is “to describe the roles and responsibilities of project participants in these design collaboration scenarios and offer definitions and guidelines that design professionals and the construction industry can adopt for their use.”

The paper is in two parts: Part 1 focuses on the three collaborative techniques (informal involvement, design assist and delegated design) and Part 2, which will be published at a later date, will specifically address design assist related to structural steel.
