The Journal of Protective Coatings & Linings (JPCL) is proud to announce the appointment of Professor Dumitru Nedelcu to its Editorial Board. Professor Nedelcu brings an extensive and distinguished background in manufacturing engineering, industrial management, and modern manufacturing technologies, coupled with decades of academic, research, and professional leadership.
Professor Nedelcu graduated in 1992 from the Manufacturing Engineering specialty of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, Romania. He began his academic career as a junior assistant professor in the Department of Machine Manufacturing Technology, while simultaneously pursuing studies in Industrial Management at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration, “Al.I. Cuza” University of Iasi, which he completed in 1998. In 2003, after postgraduate studies conducted by the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, the Academy of Economic Studies of Bucharest, and the Terotechnology Association of Romania, he became a national expert in general and industrial management consulting.
Over his career, Professor Nedelcu has published 39 books or book chapters, authored or co-authored 197 scientific articles—including 36 in WoS journals with impact factor—and holds four patents indexed by Clarivate Analytics. He has led 14 national and international research projects as project manager and contributed to 17 others, while also proposing several European and national-level projects in recent years.
A leader in academic publishing, Professor Nedelcu is Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Modern Manufacturing Technologies (IJMMT) and Advanced Engineering Forum (Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland). He has served as Guest Editor for multiple international journals and has played a key role in developing conference series such as ModTech – New Face of TMCR, now indexed by Web of Science. His editorial and review work spans 11 international journals, with over 150 peer reviews completed for journals and conferences.
Professor Nedelcu has also made significant contributions to building research infrastructure, founding the Laboratory of Fine Mechanics and Nanotechnology at “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iasi, certified under ISO 2008 Quality Management System and recertified by ESYD Greece.
His professional recognition includes visiting professorships in Poland, Japan, Mexico, Italy, Republic of Moldova, and France, and his current roles as Visiting Professor at the Silesian University of Technology, Poland, and Alecu Russo University of Bălți, Republic of Moldova. He is also a Ph.D. supervisor at the Technical University of Moldova and a member of prestigious bodies including the Technical Sciences Academy of Romania and the Academy of Romanian Scientists.
Professor Nedelcu’s appointment to the JPCL Editorial Board reflects the journal’s commitment to integrating expertise from across engineering disciplines to address the evolving challenges in protective coatings, materials science, and industrial applications. His deep knowledge in manufacturing processes, material technologies, and international academic cooperation will contribute significantly to JPCL’s mission of advancing research and practice in the field.
