W.R. Meadows has introduced a single-component waterproofing compound for a variety of asphalt and concrete detailing applications.

BEM is a moisture-curing, elastomeric, waterproofing and sealing material. The cold-applied, non-slump product can be used for a variety of detailing applications with building envelope products, the company said.

The manufacturer says BEM:

  • Bonds to asphalt and concrete;
  • Is solvent-free and will not shrink;
  • Skins over in 50 minutes;
  • Does not freeze; and
  • Cures to a tough, flexible membrane.

Applications and Warnings

BEM can be used in the forming of fillets and reinforcing corners and as a flashing material.

BEM is an elastomeric waterproofing and sealing material.

The product is not recommended for areas subject to continuous immersion, should not be used on surfaces that are to be painted later, and should not be stored in high temperatures.

Environmental Features

The product complies with all current federal, state, and local maximum allowable VOC requirements, including U.S. EPA, SCAQMD, and OTC, the manufacturer reports. BEM also meetings Canada VOC concentration limits for architectural coatings regulations.

BEM may contribute to LEED credits, including Indoor Environmental Quality and Energy and Atmosphere, the company said.

W.R. Meadows Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets building materials for construction professionals. The family-owned and -operated company sells products through an authorized distribution network.

When reading about caulks/sealants, it would definitely be interesting to know which ASTM category it falls into (ASTM C920: http://www.astm.org/Standards/C920.htm )
