The Sherwin-Williams Company is recalling nearly 120,000 aerosol canisters of automotive, acrylic and other paints in the wake of user reports that cans have been leaking and pose a fire hazard.
The recalls affect:
• Dupli-Color Perfect Match Automotive Paint (8 ounce);
• Krylon Triple Thick Crystal Clear Glaze (12 ounce);
• Krylon Indoor/Outdoor Crystal Clear Acrylic Paint (11 ounce); and
• Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating (11 ounce).
The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Aug. 29 that it had agreed to the “voluntary recall” in cooperation with Sherwin-Williams. Consumers should stop using the recalled products immediately. It is illegal to resell or attempt to resell a recalled consumer product.

Fire Hazard Cited
The Krylon acrylic paint products make up the largest part of the recall, affecting about 98,400 cans sold at hardware stores between July 2011 and June 2012.
“Sherwin-Williams said it has received 31 reports of leaking cans, which could pose a fire hazard if the cans are stored near an ignition source,” the CPSC reported.
“Sherwin-Williams said it has received reports of property damage caused by leaking paint, but no injuries have been reported.”
The Krylon cans have batch codes of HL1311FV, HL2081KL, or HL2081MN printed on the bottom. The cans bear the UPC code of 075577005000 or 724504035305.
The products were sold at Ace Hardware, Ben Franklin, Do It Best Corp., Kmart, Lowe’s, Pat Catan’s, Walmart and other retail stores nationwide. Dupli-Color Automotive Paint
The action also affects about 2,700 cans of Dupli-Color Perfect Match Automotive Paint in green metallic.

The product was sold in an 8-ounce spray paint can between July 2011 and June 2012 at Advance Auto, Autozone, Discount Auto Parts, General Automotive Supply, NAPA, Pep Boys and other retail stores. The batch code HL2031LN is printed on the bottom of the can, along with UPC code 026916715036.
Sherwin-Williams says that the can may leak, posing a fire hazard, but that it has received no reports of incidents or injuries.
Tree House Acrylic Coating
Also recalled are about 17,850 cans of Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating sold exclusively through Hobby Lobby from July 2011 to June 2012.
The recall involves 11-ounce cans of Tree House Studio Clear Acrylic Matte Coating. Batch date HL2081LT is printed on the bottom of the can, along with UPC code 724504103004.
As with the Dupli-Color product, the manufacturer says that the cans may leak, posing a fire hazard, but that it has not received any reports of incidents or injuries.
