Daubert Chemical Co. has introduced an extensive line of Severe Atmospheric Corrosion Inhibitors (SACI) for use in coatings, sealants and linings designed for metal structures.

The SACI products are available in a variety of carriers for use in a wide range of transportation, structural steel, aerospace, marine, military, industrial and other applications, including:
• Bridge and highway overpass maintenance coatings;
• Pipe coatings;
• Anticorrosive caulks and sealants;
• Coil coatings;
• Aftermarket rustproofing materials;
• Hot melt coatings;
• Component protectants;
• Paints for weathering steel utility towers;
• Ballast tank linings; and
• Wax-based antifouling paints.
Paint additives can also be modified to offer rheological control for high-solids paints, liquid corrosion inhibitors, industrial primers, or direct-to-metal coatings.
Lead-Based Alternative
Thixotropic Overbased Calcium Sulfonate Corrosion Inhibitors are widely used to protect metal surfaces from corrosion under severe atmospheric conditions, according to Daubert. Products in the SACI line are designed to replace lead-based and other corrosion inhibitors that are toxic by nature.
The multi-functional SACI compounds can be used to produce a variety of formulations that resist sag, run-off, and flow, even at high film buildup and elevated temperatures, the manufacturer says.
The line is available in three carriers: 100% solids (oil or wax), which are particularly useful in formulating reduced-VOC materials; solvent-based; and water-based. Both solvent- and water-based products form oily, tacky, waxy, or firm (tack-free) films.
Established in 1935, Chicago-based Daubert Chemical provides corrosion-prevention and other functional industrial coatings and specialty adhesives for the steel, automotive transportation and general manufacturing industries.
