Veteran coating specialist Lee Wilson has just released The Paint Inspector’s Field Guide, a comprehensive guide to the coatings inspection process.
The long-awaited guide by the world-class coating inspector was edited by JPCL Technical Editor Brian Goldie and published by TQC, the Dutch maker of field coating inspection equipment.

The Field Guide aims to fully explain and simplify the inspection process for achieving high standards of quality for protective coating projects.
From Specs to Sign-Off
Designed for protective coating inspectors, specifiers, owners, painting contractors and other professionals, the 198-page guide contains a wide range of technical text as well as rich graphics that provide clear visual reference for inspection techniques, standards and defects.
Quality control and inspection before, during and after surface preparation and application are critical to the lifespan of any protective coating system.
The Field Guide’s 21 chapters cover all aspects of these vital tasks, including:
• The specification and pre-job conference;
• Surface preparation and standards;
• Surface profile and testing;
• Protective coating application and curing;
• Reasons and remedies for coating failures;
• Paint film thickness and testing;
• Maintenance coating, inspection and reporting; and
• Typical contractors’ malpractice.
In addition to the technical information and step-by-step inspection instructions, novices and veterans alike will welcome Wilson’s valuable experience notes.
