Corbett has conducted coatings training courses and instrument use workshops for a variety of industries for more than 20 years. He is an SSPC Certified Protective Coatings Specialist, an SSPC Level 2 Certified Protective Coatings Inspector, an SSPC Level 2 Certified Bridge Coatings Inspector, and a NACE International Level 3 Certified Coatings Inspector. He is a lead instructor for SSPC’s Bridge Coatings Inspector, Protective Coatings Inspector and Applicator Train-the-Trainer courses.
Webinar Addresses Wastewater Coatings
On Wednesday, Oct. 12, JPCL and SSPC will offer a free webinar on “Selecting Coatings for Wastewater Facilities.” That webinar, from 11 a.m. to noon EDT, will describe the coatings systems that are typically recommended for the main exposure conditions in wastewater service, and will explain the pros and cons for each system.
The presenters will be Lake H. Barrett and Gary R. Hall, of Sauereisen Inc.

The programs are part of the JPCL/SSPC Webinar Education Series, which provides continuing education for SSPC recertifications and technology updates on important topics.
SSPC is an accredited training provider for the Florida Board of Professional Engineers (FBPE), and Professional Engineers in Florida may submit SSPC Webinar Continuing Education Units to the board. To do so, applicants must download the FBPE CEU form and pass the Webinar Exam, which costs $25.

“Creating a Contractor Safety Program that Works,” presented Sept. 14, provides guidance for industrial painting contractors who have to develop a company safety program. The webinar discusses good safety practices and regulatory requirements, including the current OSHA guidelines for a company safety program.

The presenter was Bob Ikenberry, corporate safety director and project manager for California Engineering Contractors, and an SSPC-certified Protective Coating Specialist.
“One-Coat Systems in Public Works Projects,” presented Aug. 10, describes the design and data derived from two FHWA research projects on coating performance, focusing on promising one-coat systems and systems with potential for long-term service. The presenter was Eric S. Kline, of KTA-Tator Inc.

“Protecting Steel Edges,” presented June 8, describes specific methods of obtaining sufficient coating thickness on steel edges and other irregular steel surfaces, where coatings tend to pull away during curing. The presenter was Bob Kogler, of Rampart LLC, former head of corrosion protection and coatings research at the Federal Highway Administration.

“Achieving Durability in Concrete Repairs,” presented May 11, provides an introductory-level overview on selecting and using repair materials for structural concrete in a way that assures the durability of the repair. The presenter was Peter Emmons, CEO of the Structural Group and past president of the International Concrete Repair Institute.
