The Steering Committee will explore broadening SSPC’s focus and outreach in the commercial/light industrial coatings sector. The group’s first meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Oct. 4 at KTA-Tator’s headquarters in Pittsburgh.
Standards and Guides
The move follows a request by SSPC members who have an interest in developing standards and guides for the commercial and light industrial coatings sector. The group’s initial goal will be to address surface preparation and coatings issues and problems in those segments.
“Our roots as an organization are based in standards development, especially in the areas of surface preparation and the use of high-performance coatings,” said SSPC executive director Bill Shoup. “We are pleased to have the chance to help advance coatings in this part of the industry.”
Meeting Mission
Attendees at the October meeting will determine the group’s mission and scope and set priorities for the topics to be addressed. Initial discussions will focus on surface preparation standards and guides, paint materials, concrete flooring, air barriers, quality assurance/quality control, and the contractor sector with a focus on SSPC’s QP 9 (Application of Architectural Paints/Coatings).
