EcoPrimer, new from Cortec Corp., is a low-VOC, water-based, protective formulation for carbon steel, stainless steel, galvanized steel and aluminum substrates.

Cortec says the core shell acrylic modified alkyd is the first coating to combine a bio-based formulation with the company’s corrosion-inhibiting chemistry.

EcoPrimer, 30% bio-based, is designed to provide good adhesion and corrosion resistance in virtually any environment.

Application

EcoPrimer may be applied by spray or brush. A film thickness of 1.5-4.0 dry mils (37.5-100 microns) is recommended. The coating dries to the touch in 20 to 30 minutes, while full curing takes approximately one week, the manufacturer says.

Topcoats may be applied between 30 minutes and eight hours after the primer is applied, depending upon the type of topcoat and the drying conditions.

A wash primer is recommended before applying EcoPrimer to galvanized steel and aluminum.

Clean-up uses soap and water.

EcoPrimer is available in five-gallon pails (19 liters), 55-gallon (208 liter) drums, or 275-gallon (1040 liter) totes.

St. Paul, MN-based Cortec Corp. provides VpCI and MCI corrosion-control technologies for oil and gas, construction, metalworking, water treatment and other industries. Cortec manufactures more than 400 products distributed worldwide.
