This issue is a very important one. Because the new IMO resolutions restricts and makes using Epoxy coatings very hard when the ballast tanks are treated with chemicals that attack the coating film and cause rapid deterioration, hence reducing its service life of 15 years. I'm currently studying this issue and checking how long would a ballast tank with epoxy coatings can perform without corrosion or being attacked severely by these chemicals.
